'Dexter' Season 6, Episode 6 Recap - 'Just Let Go'

'Dexter' Season 6, Episode 6 Recap - 'Just Let Go' For six seasons, Dexter has assumed that when it comes to his "dark passenger," he has no choice in the matter. And we, the audience, pretty much assumed the same. In "Just Let Go," that truth, the law that governs this show (Dexter must kill) almost got turned on its head.

Almost.

Dexter takes a detour from his stalking of Travis when he finds out that Brother Sam has been shot. Before he can get to his shooter Leo Hernandez, though, that hotshot new guy from Chicago figures it out. Is Dexter getting slow, or is this guy just that good?

But even though Dex watches Leo get gunned down, he isn't satisfied. So he does a little more digging and finds out that it was Nick all along. The path seems clear: find Nick and give him a cellophane-wrapped departure. But Brother Sam, with his dying words, tells Dexter to forgive him instead, still claiming that he sees the light in Dex.

That, of course, goes terribly awry. When Dexter tells Nick that Sam forgives him, Nick actually starts giggling with glee knowing that he'll get off the hook. Dex is having none of that, and Nick gets his giggling ass drowned in the same water that baptized him. It's not a kill room, but the poetic nature of the kill is still Dexter's style. Nicely done.

A shocker, though, when Dex finishes that kill. He's applauded by a figure that we at first assume is his father, but something is different. A swing of the camera angle reveals that it's Brian aka Rudy aka the Ice Truck Killer, applauding his little brother on his latest kill!

What does this mean? If Dexter's dad has been his superego or some part of his conscience thus far, then Brian must be the id... or at least just really bad news. Dexter might still find the light this season, but it's not going to be that easy. Clearly, he's going to succumb even further to the dark via Brian before emerging on the other side.

In other, less exciting news, Deb continues to have trouble with her new position, Quinn banged that person of interest who is now a key part of the investigation, and Travis is really starting to have some second thoughts about his mission with Gellar... he even released their newly-captured "whore."

But who cares about all that? Brian's back!

Other notes:

-"Guy's a f**kin' rock star": we forget sometimes how good Dexter is at his actual job.

-"The tatt above her ass... I was in the vicinity."

-Why is Travis storing all that blood? Actually, you know what? I don't want to know.

-"I could give a f**k who you f**k, just don't f**k with my investigation you f**k." Classic Deb line. She is now a caricature of herself.
